Human skin is fairly elastic. This is usually evident when people reach the puberty stage or when women are pregnant. But at these times, skin health is quite crucial and our skin must be able to withstand tearing as it stretches.

Three layers make up the human skin: the epidermis, dermis, and then the subcutaneous stratum. Now, elasticity is very important in the dermis as it is this layer that stretches the most and yet is not as strong as the epidermis. When the dermis tears, this is the beginning of the formation of stretch marks. And when they do occur, stretch marks itch and burn; sensations that are very irritating and not good for our skin.

Signs

When your skin itches and burns, it can only mean two things: The areas that do itch or burn could lack a lot of moisture and the skin in those areas is most likely very dry. You might also notice that the areas of your skin that are extremely dry will sometimes show stretch marks. Now, it isn’t the stretch marks that cause the itching and burning. It is because the dermis has not been hydrated enough that itching and burning might occur.

Also, the stretch marks indicate that the area of skin around the itching and burning is not moist enough. This is true because if your skin was hydrated enough then the dermis would not have torn and therefore no stretch marks may have appeared to begin with. This is the only connection that can be made when trying to find out why stretch marks itch and burn.

How To Ease The Itching & Burning

Moisturizers – People who do suffer from the itching and burning caused by skin that is not moisturized well, there are many cosmetic lotions and creams that can help the dryness. These lotions are not very effective in the long term because they are only temporary and you might find yourself using too much lotion or cream without results.

Hydration – The best thing to do is to get rid of the problem at its root. The root of all dry skin is unhealthy skin. You can address this issue by first making sure that you drink a lot of water (at least 8 glasses a day to be exact) and also by using products that are known to address these skin issues properly.

When I finally lost the last 20 pounds, I thought I had it made. I expected to be lean and healthy, attractive and universally desirable. I was still in my early 20s, so I figured that I had plenty of time as a young person to attract the attention of the opposite sex. There was one thing, however, that I had not figured on – stretch marks.

I tried everything that I could think of for stretch marks removal, but nothing worked. There are all kinds of products for removing stretch marks, so apparently it is a pretty common problem. There are stretch mark removal creams, lotions, potions, unctions, and anything else that you can name. There are even herbal supplements out there that are supposed to aid with stretch marks removal. Believe me, I tried everything. I even tried the stuff that sounds pretty hokey. I was so desperate to have the stretch marks removed, you see, that I couldn’t give up.

I guess to understand where I am coming from, you have to know what a crushing blow the stretch marks were to me. I had never been thin and beautiful, but I had always wanted to be. I didn’t want to have to deal with stretch marks removal. I figured that when I was thin, it would be almost like starting over. It seemed like quite a few people couldn’t recognize me, so why did I have those awful stretch marks to remind me of what I used to be? If it was such a common problem, how come all of the stretch marks removal products didn’t work? I was getting desperate quickly, and I needed a solution!

Finally, I started looking at surgical removal of stretch marks. Surgical stretch marks removal may sound drastic to some people, but I was almost ready to consider it. I don’t really understand how it works, and I’m not sure that I want to. The image that I get in my head is of them cutting up my skin, cutting out large pieces, and stitching the remaining bits back together.

The parts with the stretch marks would be all gone, and the rest of the skin would be knit a little bit tighter. It kind of makes me cringe just to think about surgical stretch marks removal. It seems so extreme, after all, and I don’t see how all my skin could take the strain. I don’t really know what I am going to do.
